NDLEA seizes 227.055kg drugs in 6 months

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency
(NDLEA), on Wednesday, disclosed that it
intercepted 227.055 kg of drugs at the Murtala
Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos in
six months.
The Agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Mitchell
Ofoyeju, said the drugs, with an estimated local
value of N2.5 billion, were seized from 63
traffickers between January and June 2012.
The Agency’s Airport Commander, Hamza Umar,
said 72.350kg of cannabis, 46.25kg of
methamphetamine, 43.505kg of cocaine, 33.15kg
heroin and 31.8kg of ephedrine were seized in the
“Male suspects are 53 while females are 10. The
command also recorded two abandoned seizures
within the period under review. The first was 16kg
of heroin in April and 160g of methamphetamine in
June,” he added.
The Chairman of the Agency, Ahmadu Giade, vowed
that the agency’s fight against drug traffickers
would continue through prompt seizures of drugs.
